Trying something new. Moving away from creating a black outlined drawing and using pencil to capture the scene, following by watercolours. Verdict is still out but I will continue on with this process for now.
You know, it's so funny Wil, but sometimes I have thought about trying the same thing. Some have referred to my people drawings (in a complementary fashion) by saying, "very good - have you ever tried cartooning?" Aargh. This is why I've tried the brown line. I think the guy that is reading, and the tables, look great with no penline - nice relaxed feel. No pen needed. What lead are you using?
Hi Dan, thanks for stopping by. I used a HB pencil.
I always associated the micron pen and black out lines with the field of illustration (i know, narrow minded) but as I move away from the micron and use pencil, my images, in my mind, are veering more and more to the "fine arts" area. Not too sure how I feel about that in terms of career path.
I am doing a lot of the same thing right now. (mainly because I hate my linework in pen.) The part I'm struggling with is getting crispness in the edges. Wonderful images (this one, and the last).
Fabulous Wil! Thank you for the info...and I'm very excited about it because I just so happened to have just purchased a hot press w/c block! It's my first time with hot press and I can't wait to try it now!

ReplyDeleteRaena, I find using a hot press paper helps with a fluid application of colour, which in turn helps with the crispness of colour edges.
ReplyDeleteJust my 2 cents.
I like it unfinishnes, it holds composition interesting. Whatever you do you do it so talented that its a pleasure to look.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Nikira. The unfinished look was purely accidental (and poor time management) because I had to get to a class.
