sketchbook 11/8/10

I'm still working on the large acrylic painting, but it's discouraging to see that what I want and envision in my mind's eye is not coming out on the canvas. So in the meantime, I'm drawing more people in my sketchbook. It's what I need at this point in time to allay the fears that I have about my lack of artistic abilities.

you are far from lacking in artistic abilities! Don't ever doubt yourself!

Great pages - love the faces, love the mix of faces and words! Excellent. Well today I was sketching Jeopardy contestants, and totally forgot how to draw, so I can relate. I am taking comfort in the fact that this is the first time that has happened in ages. And my acrylic painting..well, like you, a work in progress. The great thing is that I can paint over any part. And the bad thing is that I can paint over any part. It's a great challenge. I have resolved that I will paint over and over and over again until I get it right!

Zerlina-- thanks. The battle continues.
Dan-- So that's what you look like! nice putting a face to a name.

Thanks for sharing your acrylic battle as well. I'm doing the same thing and painting over areas over and over again. However, I seem to like how my acrylic goes on in my smaller sketch book and I hope to translate that method t my larger scale stuff. I suspect it's the gesso I applied to the canvas that's throwing me off a bit. I sanded it to an egg shell smoothness and there's nothing my paint could grip on to!.

Good luck with your acrylic endeavours and it's always nice hearing from you.
