sketchbook

Bloor Gladstone Library people.

Dufferin Mall mall rats. Seen at the food court. I've noticed that when I sketch the older demographic and when they notice what I'm doing, they don't care. They just keep on doing what they were doing. Like this gentleman here. Thank you sir for not freaking out.

Sketchbook- Dufferin Mall Food Court

I went to the Dufferin Mall after work to do some grocery shopping and a bit of sketching. Death and taxes are the two things that are guaranteed in life. I'd like to add a third. These retired Portuguese men congregated in the food court chewing the fat. They are the new mall rats.

sketchbook

It's been a while since I sketched at the Dufferin Mall food court. So today, I went there and it was packed. I'm not one for crowds but the one upside about this was that I had to share a table with "Gus". Of course nothing comes for free so he had to (unwittingly) pose for me.

After Dufferin Mall and a short walk later, I was at the Bloor Gladstone Library. A nice place to sketch. I'll have to bring a non leaky blue pen with me next time

Another sketch session at Dufferin Mall. I'm always guaranteed some old men to sketch there and today the perfect model unwittingly posed for me. I called him, "Fernando". Whenever I sketch a man like Fernando who's sitting by himself in a contemplative mood, I tend to make up a back story for him. Is he happy with his life in Toronto? Was he happier in Portugal? Is he proud of his kids and what they're doing with their lives? I guess these questions are the questions I have for my dad with respect to me and my sisters.

My first post for the new year.
Stay tuned for some more stuff in the near future. I've been working on an acrylic painting that hopefully I'll be uploading in the next two weeks.

sketchbook 10/11/09

I had the entire image laid out in my mind. However, it seldom works out the way I usually see it. The gentleman with the glasses was supposed to be sitting to the right of the gentleman with the English style riding cap… slipped up on the proportions of this piece, but I thing it worked out well in the end. Also i couldn't resist sketching the gentleman with the cowboy hat. Who wears a cowboy hat in Toronto?!

sketchbook 31/10/09

I didn't have the energy to wander further a field so I returned to Dufferin Mall to sketch people in the food court. What I noticed right away was the large congregation of older european men talking to each other in smaller clusters. I also noticed that most of these gentlemen had really unique shaped ears and noses. Something to sketch, you say?! Absolutely!

Sketching at Dufferin Mall today and I forgot how many older, retired gentlemen go there and chew the fat with each other. Prime sketching territory.
