3x3 apples

Just finished my 2 sets of 3x3 apples. My original intention after finishing the larger piece was to do these guys to hang at the Starbucks where I work.

When I finished the blue piece I was apprehensive about the numbering system I used and I still am. Any thoughts on that from the blogosphere?

Suzanne Collage

Suzanne Ernst is a friend from university. We've been hanging out recently and she mentioned that her birthday is coming up (tomorrow in fact) and she was lamenting the fact that no one has ever made her a personal birthday card. It was surprising to hear this because she lives in and is surrounded by creativity at work and friends. So I told her I'd make her a personal card...she actually mentioned that a scribble on a piece of paper would make her happy...so I hope this does the trick for her.

Plus, I also hope she doesn't stumble onto this before it arrives in the mail in a few days.

Plus, plus, all the words I've used to describe her are not true...they all should be multiplied by a factor of ten… then we're getting near to what she really is like...however the "freak of nature" should be multiplied by a factor of 20 (kidding...really..ok, maybe a little freakish, but in a really nice way!)

Happy birthday, Suzanne!

Zerlina's collage

Here's another typographic collage I just finished to give to my sister for her birthday.
Unfortunately, the wood chop of my last name didn't translate too well onto the watercolour paper. Will have to try some other way of putting it on.

Ana collage

My good friend Ana has turned 38. This year, I thought I'd give her a birthday present, with a personal touch.

The following piece was based on a typographic experiment I tried in an earlier sketchbook spread. My feelings are a bit mixed about this piece. It's the first piece of art I've produced that will be put out there to the general public for them to judge (and I'm kinda nervous about that). Secondly, just from a technical point of view, some of the spacing is a bit off and that's what I see when I view this piece.

Any thoughts from the blogosphere?

(I hope Ana doesn't see this before our Saturday get together.)

I've also included some process stages (I really liked how this looked just in black ink, actually).
