Christmas Sale of my giclée cafe drawings

Tis the season! Wouldn't this make a great present?!!
I had a few giclée prints left over from my art shows this past summer, so I thought I'd put them up for sale here on my blogger site.

Here are the details of each print:
- They are all printed on German Etching paper (same texture and feel like the original watercolour paper I painted them on).
- measurements: 12x9 inches. with a .25 in. white border.

Naco Cafe and Gallery revisited

So a few days ago I noticed Naco Cafe redecorated their interior, namely moving their bar to accommodate a few more tables. Reason enough to sketch it again, no? Looking at it now, I think I preferred the first attempt at this space. It's unfortunate that the back of the chair in the foreground rides directly up the man's back side...live and learn.

Spacing Magazine

It's finally out! About three months ago I emailed the art director of Spacing Magazine, a local magazine about Toronto urban issues, about my café illustrations. He loved them and asked if he could feature them in this Quarter's spring issue. Of course I said yes and the rest is history, as the saying goes!

However, as a newbie to the paid illustration world, the 3 months leading up to today, when I finally saw my drawings in print, I was wracked with paranoia. I emailed the AD a few times asking where I stood with it over the last three months and he never replied. I of course thought they regretted the decision of putting my illustrations in this issue and this was their way of saying, "beat it". Well the paranoia was vanquished today when I saw them finally in print.

I'm pretty stoked right now.

Mission accomplished: Naco Cafe and Zoots

It's 3am and I'm way too tired to comment on these images coherently. So I'll return to them in 8 hours.

Good morning all. It's 6.5 later and I'm feeling quasi rested. So as promised I'm here finishing this post. The Naco Cafe is located a block from my place and is owned and run by Julian, a really nice guy from Mexico, I believe. His cafe doubles as an art gallery and constantly has shows running there. I've been there in the past but this was the first time I really looked at the space and how it felt to be in there and it really had a cool vibe. Alot of eye candy going on in the space like the religious icons; a picture of jesus and the small devil's head over the doorway to the back. If you're in Toronto, you definitely should check this space out.

Another cafe is Zoots. It's owned and run by Melanie Janisee, a Detroit native who finally landed in Toronto. I was fortunate that Melanie was curious enough to come up to me to see what I was doing. From this she told me that the name Zoots was the name of the cafe that she worked at while she was in Detroit. So i guess this is Zoots, the Toronto Version. Thanks for letting me idle away a few hours away drawing your cafe, Melanie. (She's also a great artist herself who has a few pieces hanging on her walls, in particular some small vignettes outside the washrooms)
