10 oclock art

Added a bit more to my 10 O'clock art spread.

I found this through Eric Orchard's blog. The concept is to post whatever is on your drawing board at 10 o'clock, regardless of what state it's in. Post it on twitter, with the #10oclockart hash mark. It'll be interesting to see all the offerings once it hopefully gets going. Plus this is an excellent way, at least for me, to draw something and not be too finicky about it because I'll have a 10 o'clock "deadline".

This is my offering. I've drawn it before, but I know how you all like to see how a starving artist, bachelor's kitchen is like. Well here's your chance.

On a side note, now that I'm writing it, the word "bachelor" makes me sound like an old curmudgeon of a guy who's stuck in his ways... I guess if you've seen my previous post on this exact same subject matter, it hasn't changed much... oh, geez, I am a bachelor.

Oops, a bit after 10.

It was such a warm, beautiful day today, that I had to get out there and draw. I decided on the round house down by the lakeshore. It once was the building that housed all the trains during our "golden age" of train use. However, now the building itself houses a brewery in the east part of the structure and a furniture store in the west. I'm not complaining about the brewery but the furniture store decided to wreck a beautiful, industrial, concrete silo with their name perched onto top of it...Whatever happened to tasteful, subtle design? The drawing captures the bottom portion of the silo but fortunately my non-existent sense of proportion allowed for the omission of the name.

The Keyhole Sessions

Warm-up sketches.

The Keyhole Sessions are an on going figure drawing class that occurs every Tuesday night at 8pm. It's advertised as "Not your grandma's life-drawing session" and rightly so. I attended tonight's session and Mara and Mattea were the models for the evening. Their poses were provocative and to some, could be considered a bit racy. However, I found them to be refreshing, a nice change from the traditional stuff done in academic type figure drawing sessions. So here are a few pages from tonight.

First chance I got to sketch in a few days. I felt like a born again sketcher.
The lady in the image got a bit nervous I think towards the end of my drawing her. I guess i would too if I had a semi bald asian man openly looking at me in spurts!

But it was nice to get this in before more reality comes barging in and takes me away from my sketchbook.

Now that I think about it, there were quite a few older folk around me having coffee.

Went to the Dufferin/Gladstone library today. This definitely will be one of the locations I come to during the winter to sketch. Location 2. Check!

I drew this with a mechanical pencil and I didn't realize how unresponsive a MP can be. However, I got looser towards the end and that's when I started drawing the pople at the bottom. The Dufferin/Gladstone Library's s story foyer are is great for sketching pople from above. I'd like to call it the poor man's gesture drawing class.

Scouting for indoor sketching locations for the inevitable winter ahead. I found myself returning to the Harbourfront Centre and drawing Aaron and Bejamin, two glass blowers I've sketched before right here.

It also gave me the opportunity to practice drawing faces. Benjamin's pretty close, but Aaron's a ways off. I'm sure you'll be seeing more drawings from the Harbourfront Centre once the snow starts to fly.

Sketchbook 07/10/09

Trying something new. Moving away from creating a black outlined drawing and using pencil to capture the scene, following by watercolours. Verdict is still out but I will continue on with this process for now.

I forgot how enjoyable drawing with pencil can be. I think I'll stick with it for a bit.

Dreams: "Alex's Closet"

There are mornings when I wake up and I will have remembered quite vividly, in random flash images of what I had dreamt during the night. This is one instance and I thought I would put it to paper. It's an image of my aikido teacher's closet with all his gis (the white pajamas) hanging in a row. Don't ask how I know it's his closet. I just know.

If any viewers out there can interpret dreams, and would like to enlighten me to the significance of this image (if any), please do. It would be most appreciated… and thanks in advance.
