sketchbook 11/09/09

This was my entry for this past week's Illustration Friday theme of "Strong", but I was a little too late with it so I'll just post it as a sketchbook entry.

Some rut! You're posting so fast that I can't even keep up with your sketches, much less your posts! Great courthouse sketch. It's the same in Miami with the cellphones in court. Cellphones are to judges what dogs are to mailmen, I think. The Sakura drawing is, of course, amazing. I like on the "STRONG" drawing that you adopted a graphic designer-type style. It works well with the theme, and is consistent with other work of the type that I have seen. What is it, gouache? (By the way, thanks for the inspirational film, I have bookmarked it and will watch.)

I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm trying to start my illustration career and this rut is perfect practice for when I have paying jobs on my plate that I can't seem to resolve..so as stated previously I'm trying to draw my way out of this thing...

I used acrylic for this image.

And the TED site rocks. I love the Elizabeth Gilbert talk.

I have never used gouache before, but think it's like acrylic.

Me neither, but I have acrylics and I am going to dust em off really soon. I think gouache is like an opaque watercolor. It's what Diahn Ott uses all the time (the link to "Art by Diahn" is on my blog, if you haven't been there.)
