Clafouti

"A clafouti is a baked French dessert that is typically made by baking fresh fruit (traditionally cherries) and a batter, halfway between a Yorkshire pudding/pancake batter and a custard, in a baking dish." Wikipedia

Well that's the name of this cafe. Apparently one of oldest in the city. It's strange that there are so many independent cafes in the city. This one, literally is three doors down from the White Squirrel Cafe, a place I had drawn a few months ago. I wonder how all these cafes can survive in this economy.

That's an interesting question...
I love what you've done here (I can't help it but I love detail), and I like the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere that shows in this moment freezed in time...
Best regards,
Carolina

My husband and I sold our last restaurant in 2005, the top of the market, because we saw this economy coming. We often talk about where we would be if we hadn't chosen that perfect time to do it. I feel for the people who bought it from us, as I'm sure they must be struggling now. Great sketch, Wil. Love your colors!

I love the depth in this one, and all of the detail and colors. I also like the texture of the wall on the left. Great sketch!

I love the perspective in this one.
I'm sure it's difficult for these small cafe owners but they provide us with a taste of something special, something we wouldn't make at home, at a price far more affordable then a white table cloth restaurant. I hope that and the fact that people are always on the go and everyone has to stop and eat helps them through.

Dan-- the detail is the result of my analness. I tend to get a bit of tunnel vision when i get into these situations. I think it's a reaction to be in public and me trying to escape the public eye… does that make any sense?

Barbara-- thanks and i agree. Supposedly these cafe offers one of the best croissants in the city. Rich, buttery and flaky. It's like a party in your mouth.

Ramona, Jamie-- thanks for stopping by and commenting. I tend to get into a tunnel vision mode when I'm in a cafe and as a result, I attempt to sketch everything in my cone of vision. Sometimes this works for me and results in a great, detailed image and other times it blows up in my face... it's a crap shoot, really.
